Extra Credit Opportunities
Each student can earn up to 10 points of extra credit in band. Most of your extra credit experiences will probably be easy and very enjoyable so get out there and get involved in music! There are numerous ways to earn extra credit in band. Here are a few links and ideas to consider:
Private Lesson Study
5 points per quarter for regular weekly lessons. Turn in a extra credit summary form at the end of each quarter to receive this extra credit. Before contacting a private lesson instructor, ask Mr. Thompson to assure that you find the right person to study with.
Participation In Extra-Curricular Music Activities
5 points per quarter for full participation. Examples are UA Outreach Honor Band, Arizona Jazz Academy, Jazz Werx, Tucson Philharmonia, or anything else of thist sort. Be sure to ask Mr. Thompson if a specific activity is worth extra credit and let him know what's going on so you can earn those extra credit points.
Attending Musical Performances
2 points per concert. Points are given when the student asks Mr. Thompson in advance for approval and afterward turns in the concert program stapled to a written performance review (download a performance review form). The concert must be an instrumental performance (not vocal) at any level higher than middle school. Attend a local high school band concert. Go to the UA for a band, orchestra, or jazz band concert (not just a football game). Attend a Tucson Symphony Orchestra performance, Centennial Hall event, etc...
Concert Schedules:
University of Arizona School of Music
Specific performances at all of these venues are eligible for extra credit. Just ask Mr. Thompson!
